About the Artist, Susmita
Welcome to my creative space! I am Susmita Mandal, an artist dedicated to exploring and expressing the beauty of the world through various art forms. Originally from Kolkata, India, I now call Aurora, Illinois, my home, where I have been nurturing my passion for art since 2015.
My journey into the arts began early in life. I was born and raised in India, where I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics—a testament to my analytical mindset and love for precision. Even as I pursued my academic studies, my artistic inclinations were never far behind. In my childhood, I undertook a diploma course in Drawing and Painting in Kolkata, which laid a strong foundation for my artistic pursuits. This early training ignited a lifelong passion that would shape my career and personal fulfillment.
Since turning my passion into a full-time vocation, I have immersed myself in the world of visual arts. I specialize in a diverse range of styles and themes, including Landscape Painting, Abstract Art, Portraiture, Hindu mythology-inspired paintings, and Still Life compositions. My work is characterized by vibrant colors, strong emotional depth, and a dedication to capturing the essence of my subjects. I love to experiment with different mediums such as acrylic paint, oil paint, coloring pencils, graphite and charcoal pencils, soft pastels, and oil pastels, constantly exploring new techniques and textures to bring my visions to life.
Beyond creating art, I am deeply committed to sharing my knowledge and passion. I have been privileged to conduct art classes for children, nurturing their creativity and confidence. I have also organized paint parties in collaboration with Montessori schools, which have been joyful and inspiring experiences. Additionally, I have showcased my work through solo art exhibitions, each providing a platform to connect with art lovers and collectors, and to express my evolving artistic voice.
Art, for me, is more than just a profession; it is a form of meditation and spiritual expression. Painting helps me find peace, clarity, and inspiration in my daily life. When I am not in the studio, I love to travel—drawing inspiration from the diverse cultures and landscapes I encounter—and spend quality time with my beautiful family. I am happily married and blessed with two wonderful sons, who bring joy and motivation to my life.
Collecting an array of art supplies and exploring new mediums is one of my passions. The tactile experience of working with different textures and colors fuels my creativity and continues to push my artistic boundaries.

Upcoming Workshops
Paint your own hanging tea kettle wall art in this two hour workshop at our Naperville studio. We provide the wooden tea kettle cutout, paints, brushes, and step by step guidance, so no art experience is needed. While you paint, we serve tea, and once your piece is finished and dry, you take it home the same day. This is a relaxed, social class that works well solo, with a friend, or as a small group outing. Seats are limited, so registration ahead of time is recommended.

Discover the meditative art of dot mandala painting in this hands-on adult workshop! Using the traditional dotting technique, you'll create a stunning circular design in rich reds and gold, centered around a Lord Ganesha motif, on your own wooden panel. No prior experience is necessary, just bring your creativity and patience. All materials will be provided.
Dot mandala art is known for being both intricate and deeply relaxing, as each design comes together dot by dot into a symmetrical, gallery-worthy piece. This is our largest Oak temple, standing 74 inches tall and 40 inches long, hand built in two parts so it is easier to move into your home. The bottom section holds two soft close drawers and two cabinets for your puja accessories, plus a pull out tray for your thali and candles. 4 glass shelves are attached for additioanl small/medium size idols or framed photos of your deity. Twenty three golden bells are added by hand across the front and sides, along with an interior light on a twelve foot cord. Built in our Naperville studio from solid Oak plywood.

A custom built Oak temple finished in a semi glossy walnut tone with hand painted white Acrylic detailing. Two doors trimmed in gold, with hanging bells and glass knobs, close off the altar. The bottom of the interior stands 3 feet tall for a large idol, with four small shelves above for smaller idols. An 8 inch drawer holds pooja items, and it arrives pre assembled with no setup needed.

Built as a custom order, this Oak temple has an unusually large closed cabinet, 14 x 30 x 18 inches, sized for oversized puja items. A soft close pull out tray with a large crystal knob sits above the cabinet, and nine golden bells line the front. Two additional steps were added for extra idols, and an interior light with a color change option is included.
